10 Sep Team Pilipinas Gets Final Send-Off Ahead of 2026 Asian Games
Team Pilipinas received its official send-off as the 464-strong Philippine delegation prepares for the 20th Asian Games and 5th Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) led the send-off ceremony, bringing together national sports leaders, coaches, athletes, and officials as the country prepares for the Games.
POC President Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, POC Secretary General Atty. Wharton Chan and PSC Chairman Patrick Gregorio spearheaded the ceremony, joined by officials from various national sports organizations.
“No pressure for athletes, ilabas nyo na ang lahat ng galing nyo, itodo nyo na,” Tolentino declared.
The 464 athletes will represent the Philippines across 39 sporting activities, with a mix of established champions, Olympians, defending Asian Games titleholders, and emerging talents set to compete in Aichi-Nagoya.
Adding to the delegation’s preparations, the Philippine government has announced an additional ₱6,000 allowance for every competing athlete and coach. The added assistance comes as Team Pilipinas enters the final stretch before the Games and provides further support to the country’s representatives.
For the athletes, the send-off serves as a final reminder that they will have the support of Filipinos at home and abroad when competition begins.
The Philippines has built a strong tradition of producing memorable performances on the Asian stage, and the delegation heading to Japan will look to add to that record while representing the country with pride. With the backing of the POC, PSC, the national government, and Filipino fans, Team Pilipinas now turns its attention to competition in Aichi-Nagoya.
